VANCOUVER: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, along with Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh on Sunday participated in Vancouver’s Spring Festival Parade, wishing prosperity and good health to all those celebrating the Lunar New Year.
Trudeau said: Lunar New Year celebrations were in full swing in Vancouver. After being put on pause for two years, I’m so glad we could all enjoy the parade – and welcome the Year of the Rabbit – together. Happy New Year, everyone!”
Thousands of British Columbians gathered in downtown Vancouver for the festival and parade, as they celebrated the 2023 Year of the Rabbit. The festival saw a rainbow of vibrant colours, costumes, dancers, and fireworks.
While Trudeau interacted with the community and gave high-fives to children, Pierre Poilievre was seen presenting lucky money red envelopes. B.C. Premier David Eby was seen handing out candy. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said: “Lunar New Year symbolizes a time of new beginnings and renewed hope.”
Poilievre said: “Great turnout at the Spring Festival Parade through Vancouver’s Chinatown. Can’t imagine a better way to kick off the new year celebrations.”
Red Cross Canada who was one of the sponsors of the event tweeted: “@redcrosscanada was happy to support and share in the festivities at the Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade. To everyone celebrating the #LunarNewYear, we wish you and your loved ones joy, peace, and prosperity in the coming year!”
