A new Peel Regional Police Satellite office will open in December 2022 at the City’s Gore Meadows Community Center, according to a joint announcement between Peel Regional Police (PRP) Services and the City of Brampton.
Attendees included the mayor, Patrick Brown, the chair of community services, Rowena Santos, the councillors for Wards 9 and 10, Harkirat Singh and Gurpreet Dhillon, and regional councillor, Michael Palleschi. Peel Regional Police officers and the chair of the Peel Police Services Board, Ron Chatha, were also present. MPP Hardeep Grewal of Brampton East attended the event in order to speak on behalf of the provincial government.
It is imperative to provide locals with a safer Brampton.
The previous 30 days saw 16 auto thefts, 6 thefts from vehicles, and 3 break-ins in the Wards where the Community Centre is located, according to the Crime Mapping Tool of Peel Regional Police. The satellite office will allow for a more robust police presence in the neighbourhood, which should help to prevent these crimes from happening.
The new office has an outfitted work area, a bathroom, a kitchenette, a closet for IT equipment, and a separate entrance from the building entryway. The Community Center rehabilitation project is anticipated to cost $501,000.
The creation of a community safety action plan was one of the five main goals set forward by Brampton City Council for the 2018–2022 term of council as “Brampton is a Healthy and Safe City.” The goals of the Plan will be furthered by the new Peel Regional Police Satellite office, which is situated in the community centre.
Officers will use this location as a touchdown station to visit and work while on duty and when patrolling. “This site will assist facilitate speedier response times, ensuring a safer environment for everybody,” said Mayor Patrick Brown.
