Deepika Padukone’s departure from the highly anticipated sequel to Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD has created a major vacancy in one of India’s most ambitious film franchises. With fans eager to know who will step into the pivotal role, new industry whispers point strongly toward global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
According to insiders, Priyanka—currently filming S. S. Rajamouli’s large-scale Telugu project Varanasi—is now a top contender to replace Deepika in Kalki 2898 AD 2. A trusted Hyderabad-based source says discussions are active and serious, though far from finalized.
One of the key issues appears to be scheduling. The source explains that Priyanka is seeking flexibility that allows her to balance the intense production requirements with her responsibilities as a mother. Unlike Deepika, whose scheduling conflicts pushed her out of the project, Priyanka is reportedly open to travelling with her daughter to maintain continuity during shoots. This makes the situation challenging but workable, according to the insider.
However, negotiations may become more complicated when it comes to remuneration. Priyanka is said to be requesting a fee close to what Deepika had been offered, making compensation one of the project’s biggest remaining hurdles.
When approached for confirmation, producer Priyanka Dutta did not respond, leaving speculation alive and the casting door still wide open. As talks continue, fans will be watching closely to see whether Priyanka Chopra ultimately steps into one of the biggest sci-fi worlds in Indian cinema.
