Celebrated actor Rajkummar Rao is currently basking in the success of Bhool Chuk Maaf, a romantic comedy that hit theatres on May 23, co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi. As part of the film’s promotional tour, Rao sat down for a series of candid interviews, where he revisited key moments from his cinematic journey. One standout topic was his experience working with Kangana Ranaut in the 2013 cult hit Queen.

In a recent conversation with Instant Bollywood, Rao was asked to recall his time filming Queen, in which he portrayed the role of Vijay opposite Kangana’s lead character. “It was a lot of fun,” he said, smiling. “She is undoubtedly one of the finest talents in the country—immensely talented. We had a great time shooting in Amsterdam, Paris, and Delhi.”

Rao noted that while working on Queen, no one on set anticipated the film would eventually become a cultural landmark. “You never really expect these things,” he explained. “Just like with Stree, we didn’t expect it to be such a big hit while making it. All you can do is focus on doing your best—every department, every role. After that, it’s up to the audience.”

Reflecting further, he called Queen “a masterclass—not just for actors, but also for filmmaking and storytelling.” He emphasized that the film’s success came from the sincerity of its execution, not from chasing a blockbuster result.

During the same discussion, Rao also shared his admiration for Janhvi Kapoor’s dedication to acting and touched on memorable collaborations with other co-stars throughout his career.

Having debuted in Love Sex Aur Dhokha in 2010, Rajkummar Rao has steadily climbed the ladder of Indian cinema with critically acclaimed performances in films like Aligarh and Bareilly Ki Barfi. With his upcoming project Maalik scheduled for release in 2025, Rao continues to demonstrate his versatility and commitment to meaningful storytelling.
