Residents of a neighborhood in south Mississauga are seeking answers regarding a significant police presence in their area, coupled with the blockage of a large section to traffic this afternoon.
Peel Regional Police have provided limited information, stating only that there is an “active and ongoing investigation” in the Port Credit area of the city.
Initially, police closed Port Street between Elizabeth Street and Stavebank Road as they conducted their investigation. In a later update at 4 p.m., they announced the closure of Elizabeth Street between Lakeshore Road and Port Street in addition to the earlier road closure.
Authorities have advised people to “remain out of the area” until the scene is cleared.
Residents, in response to the Peel police post on social media, have expressed their concerns about the situation. One individual stated that “residents are concerned.”
Motorists have been urged to seek alternate routes as the investigation unfolds.
