Rivian is rolling out a major software upgrade that brings Google Maps integration directly into its R1T pickup and R1S SUV navigation systems. Starting tomorrow, the update will be pushed over-the-air to all existing Rivian owners and included as standard on new models moving forward.
Unlike using the standalone Google Maps app, Rivian has built its own interface on top of Google’s Automotive SDK, creating a seamless blend of Google’s powerful features—like real-time traffic updates, satellite views, and precise ETAs—with Rivian’s unique EV-focused tools. These include range estimations, charging station planning, and battery forecasts for your route.
The refreshed navigation interface retains Rivian’s design language while delivering the intuitive functionality users expect from Google. The integration also enhances the Rivian Mobile App, now offering detailed photos, destination descriptions, and Google-powered shareable routes that can be sent directly to your vehicle.
This move puts Rivian’s in-car navigation on par with competitors while maintaining its distinct EV experience. With the update arriving as early as tomorrow, Rivian drivers can expect smoother, smarter, and more connected travel across every R1T and R1S on the road.
