Toronto is under a severe thunderstorm watch Wednesday, with Environment Canada warning of the potential for strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall.
The forecast predicts torrential downpours with up to 50 mm of rain within an hour and wind gusts reaching 90 km/h. The storm, developing along a cold front, is expected to impact the area from late morning through the afternoon.
Environment Canada cautions that large hail can damage property and cause injuries, while strong winds may toss loose objects, damage structures, break tree branches, and overturn large vehicles. Heavy rain could lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads, making water-related activities hazardous due to sudden gusts of wind.
Residents are advised to seek shelter if threatening weather approaches.
