Stanley has issued a recall of millions of its “switchback” and “trigger action” stainless steel travel mugs sold in Canada and the United States due to a potential burn hazard caused by defective lids.
Recall Details
The recall affects certain Stanley-branded travel mugs with black plastic lids, available in multiple colors and sizes: 355 ml (12 oz), 473 ml (16 oz), and 591 ml (20 oz). These mugs were sold between May 2016 and December 2024.
According to Health Canada, the issue lies in the lid threads, which can shrink when exposed to heat or torque, leading to the lid detaching during use and creating a burn risk.
Reported Incidents
In Canada, 184,170 units were sold, and there have been three incident reports, including one confirmed burn injury. In the U.S., 2.6 million units were sold, with 16 reported incidents and two burn injuries. Globally, there have been 91 reports of lids detaching, resulting in 38 burn injuries, 11 of which required medical attention.
