On Sunday, a significant incident led to a brief closure of the WinSport ski hill at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed that a youth was transported to the hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
At 2:40 p.m., a ski hill report indicated that all chairlifts and ski hills were temporarily closed. However, by 4:10 p.m., some areas had reopened, as per WinSport’s website.
Dale Oviatt, Senior Manager for Communications at WinSport, explained that the ski hill was momentarily closed to ensure the injured skier received proper care. This precautionary measure allowed medics to attend to the individual effectively. Oviatt emphasized that such closures are rare but are enacted based on factors like the incident’s location, hill occupancy, and patrol availability to maintain safety for all skiers.
