Toronto: Tim Horton’s restaurants throughout Canada sold Smile Cookies, which helped raise a record-breaking $15 million for more than 600 regional charities and community organisations.
“We were delighted to raise more than $12 million during the week-long campaign last year, breaking the previous Smile Cookie record. And this year, we were able to raise over $15 million thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of the Tim Horton’s community! With all sales proceeds going to neighbourhood-based nonprofits and community organisations, “said Tim Horton’s President Axel Schwan.
Our Smile Cookie campaign has evolved from its modest beginnings as a neighbourhood fundraiser in Hamilton in 1996 into something incredibly special that touches so many lives. I could not be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together with Tim Horton’s restaurant owners, their team members and volunteers, and Tim Horton’s customers.
1996 saw the launch of the first-ever Smile Cookie campaign, which helped Hamilton Children’s Hospital earn money. Since then, the yearly charitable campaign has helped generate more than $92 million for causes and groups chosen by Tim Horton’s shop owners each year. Local hospitals, social service agencies, food banks, and educational institutions are recipients.
Again this year, Ryan DiTommaso’s Tim Horton’s in Dunnville, Ontario, sold the most Smile Cookies, which is incredible considering Dunnville has a population of only 6,000. Over 56,000 Smile Cookies were hand-decorated by DiTommaso’s crew and sold, or about 9 for each Dunnville resident. The Dunnville Hospital and Healthcare Foundation will receive the proceeds from the sale of Smile Cookies in Dunnville.
Over the upcoming weeks, owners of Tim Horton’s restaurants will give Smile Cookie checks to their charity partners.
