TORONTO: The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) – one of the world’s leading mental health research hospitals – has thanked the Toor Family Foundation for investing in the future of youth mental health.

“We are incredibly grateful for Toor Family Foundation’s recent donation to NAVIGATE, a coordinated specialty care program within the Slaight Family Centre for Youth in Transition that puts young people experiencing early psychosis on the path to recovery,” a statement issued by CAMH said.

As a Canadian immigrant and entrepreneur, Sukhdev Toor and his wife, Sukhjit, are passionate about giving back to the country that has provided them with so many opportunities.

With this gift, the Toor family also hopes to break down the stigma that prevents people, particularly within the South Asian community, from getting help when they need it.

Toor is CEO of his company Manga Hotels of Mississauga – a Canadian company involved in the acquisition, development and management of high-quality residences and hotels affiliated with prestigious brands such as Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and InterContinental Hotels Group. He owns a string of establishments in Canada and the United States.

Toor’s success is the result of hard work. Beginning with a factory job in Canada, to driving limos at Pearson Airport and then running a motel in St. Catharines and building hotels from the ground up, Toor has come a long way.

“Thanks to the Toor family’s generosity, we can expand the comprehensive care provided to youth through targeted treatments, family education programs, resiliency training, and supported employment and education. We still have a long way to go, but with this transformative investment, we’re one step closer to a world in which every young Canadian has the opportunity to pursue their dreams,” CAMH said.

Through the power of early intervention, NAVIGATE has been creating hope for young patients and their families at CAMH since its launch in 2017.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is a psychiatric teaching hospital located in Toronto and ten community locations throughout Ontario. The hospital was established in 1998 from the amalgamation of four separate institutions – the Queen Street Mental Health Centre, the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, the Addiction Research Foundation, and the Donwood Institute.

CMAH is Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital and the only stand-alone psychiatric emergency department in Ontario.

It has 90 distinct clinical services across inpatient, outpatient, day treatment, and partial hospitalization models and CAMH has been the site of major advancements in psychiatric research, including the discovery of the Dopamine receptor D2.
