Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the City of Toronto as residents anticipate a sharp drop in temperature on Wednesday afternoon.
The national weather agency predicts record-breaking warmth earlier in the day, with temperatures soaring to a forecasted high of 13°C, potentially even reaching 16.2°C. This would break the record for warm weather on this day since 2018.
However, this mild weather is expected to be short-lived as a strong cold front is set to sweep through the southern part of the province, causing temperatures to plummet dramatically.
According to Environment Canada meteorologist Jeff Coulson, Toronto experienced spring-like weather with showers and thunderstorms recently, accompanied by unseasonably mild temperatures. Yet, a significant temperature shift is imminent as the cold front approaches.
The cold front brings with it strong northwesterly winds, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h during much of the afternoon and evening. These conditions may lead to potential flurries and icy surfaces, prompting advisories for adjusted driving habits.
While Thursday morning may see wind chill values approaching -12°C, temperatures are expected to gradually rise throughout the day, reaching a high of 0°C. Above-seasonal temperatures are forecasted to return late in the week, with highs of 5°C on Friday and 8°C on Saturday.
Despite the abrupt cold snap, Canadians can anticipate a warmer-than-normal spring ahead, although they should remain prepared for intermittent cold snaps throughout the season.
