A 25-year-old Toronto man is facing multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say he was caught speeding at 200 km/h while heavily impaired and carrying open alcohol in his vehicle.
According to a post from the OPP’s Highway Safety Division, officers stopped the driver along Highway 407 near Neyagawa Boulevard in Oakville around 11 a.m. on Sunday. When questioned, the driver allegedly told police he was “running late for work.” Subsequent breath tests revealed he was over three times the legal blood-alcohol limit.
Photos released by police show two large bottles of Crown Royal whiskey, one appearing empty, and two smaller bottles of Crystal Head vodka on the passenger seat of the car.
The driver, identified as a novice operator, now faces charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving, stunt driving, having alcohol readily available in a vehicle, and violating zero-tolerance rules for new drivers.
As part of the penalties, the man received a 90-day licence suspension, and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Police are reminding the public that impaired and dangerous driving remains a leading cause of serious accidents and fatalities on Ontario roads.
