Toronto police are investigating a brazen smash-and-grab robbery that occurred at a jewelry store in Scarborough’s Golden Mile Shopping Centre on Monday afternoon.
Robbery Details
The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. at the shopping centre located at Eglinton Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue. Witnesses reported that multiple suspects used hammers to smash the glass of a jewelry display at a Daniel Jewellery kiosk near a dollar store in the mall.
After grabbing the items, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, heading in an unknown direction.
Witness Accounts
A neighboring store owner described hearing loud banging and glass shattering during the robbery. He witnessed the suspects fleeing, pursued by security personnel and some bystanders who tried to intervene.
“It’s frustrating and scary. Innocent people are terrified—they don’t want to see this,” the store owner told CTV News Toronto. He added that he saw at least two hammers and what appeared to be a replica firearm among the suspects’ tools.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have yet to determine the value of the stolen goods or confirm if anyone was injured during the incident. The Golden Mile Shopping Centre remains open as authorities continue their investigation.
