Toronto Police Service and Toronto Crime Stoppers Announce $5,000 Reward for 2019 Homicide Investigation
Broadcast time: 02:30 PM
Date: Thursday, Oct 03, 2024
Unit: Homicide and Missing Persons Unit
Case #: 2019-1878460
Today, at Toronto Police Service Headquarters, Detective Sergeant Aaron Akeson from the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit, and Mark Cousins, Vice Chair of Toronto Crime Stoppers, announced an enhanced cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information that can assist investigators to identify and apprehend those responsible for the 2019 homicide of Amir Naraine. Detective Sergeant Akeson and Vice Chair Cousins were joined by Amir’s family.
Today’s news conference can be watched on Youtube.
On Saturday, September 28, 2019, Amir was fatally shot after an altercation that occurred earlier that night. Following the shooting, Amir got into his car with two unidentified males, as well as one of his friends who had also been shot but survived. One of the unidentified males drove Amir’s car, and after dropping Amir’s friend off in the Mount Olive Drive area, were last seen on video around 12:15 a.m., leaving Amir’s car at a plaza at 2700 Kipling Avenue.
Security footage of the two men exiting the vehicle and walking away northbound on Kipling Avenue is available here.
The driver is described as short, wearing a hat, a light-colored shirt, and light-colored runners. The passenger is taller, dressed in dark clothing and also wearing light-colored runners.
“Amir’s family has waited over four years for answers,” Detective Sergeant Akeson said. “We believe someone in the community knows what happened that night. We are asking you to come forward and help bring justice for Amir. Even the smallest detail can make a difference.”
“This enhanced cash reward will only be valid until Friday, November 1, 2024,” said Vice Chair Cousins. “So, if you have something to say – say it now, and by doing so you will be making your community a safer place.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7100, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com.
