U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a dramatic warning on Tuesday as his deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approached, suggesting that the coming hours could mark a decisive turning point in global geopolitics. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that a whole civilization could be lost if tensions escalated further, while also hinting that unexpected political change inside Iran remained possible.

Speaking roughly 12 hours before his stated 8 p.m. Eastern deadline, Trump described the moment as one of the most important in modern world history. He framed the ultimatum as a response to what he called decades of instability tied to Iran’s leadership and warned that the consequences of noncompliance could be severe.

The warning followed an earlier 48 hour window issued last week, during which Trump demanded that Iran allow international shipping to pass freely through the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, carrying a large portion of global oil exports. Trump had previously threatened to strike Iranian infrastructure including power plants and bridges if Tehran failed to meet the conditions outlined by Washington.

Iranian officials rejected the ultimatum and signalled readiness to respond if military action occurs. Authorities in Tehran said the country would target U.S. allies and interests across the Gulf region if attacks were launched. Iranian leadership also emphasized national unity and resistance, with President Masoud Pezeshkian stating that millions of citizens had registered to support the country’s defence efforts.

In a social media statement, Pezeshkian said more than 14 million Iranians had volunteered to defend the nation, adding that he personally remained committed to standing with the country during the crisis. Iranian diplomatic messaging echoed similar themes, warning that any escalation could trigger a powerful response from what officials described as an ancient and resilient civilization. According to Global News, tensions continue to rise across the region as both sides maintain firm positions ahead of the looming deadline.
