A fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran is facing serious pressure as military activity continues across the region, raising concerns that the agreement could unravel before it has a chance to stabilize the situation.
According to live coverage from Al Jazeera, Iran has accused the United States of failing to fully comply with the ceasefire terms. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliament speaker and lead negotiator, claimed that Washington has continued its blockade of Iranian ports while failing to prevent Israel from intensifying its military operations in Lebanon.
The United States military has reported that its forces redirected 121 commercial vessels as part of the ongoing blockade of Iranian ports. The United States Central Command also stated that five vessels had been disabled, while additional ships were redirected during the past week. The measures suggest that significant restrictions remain in place despite efforts to maintain the ceasefire.
Tensions are also rising in the Gulf region. Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry condemned Iranian attacks after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had struck a military base in Kuwait. Iran claimed the site had been used to support an attack on Sirik Island. The conflicting statements highlight the risk that separate regional incidents could quickly widen the conflict.
Lebanon has become another major pressure point. Israel has intensified operations across the country, while Hezbollah has continued launching rockets and drones toward northern Israel. Residents have been leaving Beirut’s southern suburbs after warnings of potential Israeli strikes, with families reportedly seeking shelter in parks, open spaces and other temporary locations.
Iran has also warned residents in northern Israel to leave their homes if Israel moves ahead with further attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The warning followed displacement orders affecting residents of Dahiyeh, a densely populated area of the Lebanese capital.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 3,433 people have been killed and more than 10,000 wounded in Israeli attacks across Lebanon since fighting resumed on March 2. With military activity continuing in Lebanon, the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, the ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains under intense strain.
The coming days will determine whether diplomatic efforts can prevent a return to wider war or whether continued military actions will push the region into another major escalation.
