Rajasthan Royals batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has completed a remarkable IPL 2026 campaign by collecting five major individual awards, including the Orange Cap and the Most Valuable Player honour. At only 15 years old, the left handed opener emerged as one of the biggest stories of the tournament after producing a season filled with explosive innings and record breaking performances.
According to WION, Sooryavanshi finished the season with 776 runs from 16 matches, earning the Orange Cap as the tournament’s leading run scorer. He also won the award for the most sixes after hitting an extraordinary 72 maximums during the season. His aggressive approach made him one of the most difficult batters for opposition bowlers to contain throughout the competition.
The young Rajasthan Royals star also received the Emerging Player of the Season award, the Super Striker of the Season honour and the Most Valuable Player award. His strike rate of 237.3 reflected the fearless style that helped him dominate some of the league’s strongest bowling attacks during only his second IPL season.
One of Sooryavanshi’s most memorable performances came during the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, when he scored 97 runs from just 29 balls. The innings helped Rajasthan Royals advance to Qualifier 2 and also allowed him to surpass Chris Gayle’s long standing IPL record for the most sixes in a single season. Gayle had hit 59 sixes in the 2012 edition, while Sooryavanshi raised the record to 72 in 2026.
Sooryavanshi came close to another century in the following match against Gujarat Titans, scoring 96 before being dismissed. Rajasthan Royals eventually lost the contest despite posting a total above 200, but the teenager’s performances remained one of the defining highlights of the season.
The 2026 campaign also showed how quickly Sooryavanshi has developed since making his IPL debut last year. During his first season, he gained national attention after scoring a century from only 35 balls against Gujarat Titans in his third IPL appearance. This year, he added another century and five half centuries, with several innings ending in the nervous nineties.
Speaking after receiving his awards, Sooryavanshi said the season taught him the importance of adapting to different match situations and understanding the needs of his team. He also emphasized that fitness will remain a major priority as he looks to avoid injuries and build a long career at the highest level of the sport.
With five awards, a new six hitting record and the Orange Cap secured before the age of 16, Sooryavanshi has established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket. His second IPL season may only be the beginning of a career that fans will be watching closely for years to come.
