Vedanta Canada is organizing a special spiritual study seminar titled Moha Mudgara – Destroyer of Delusion, based on the timeless teachings of the classical text Bhaja Govindam by Adi Shankaracharya. The program is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga, and will offer participants an opportunity to explore practical Vedantic wisdom for navigating modern life with clarity and purpose.

Often referred to as Moha Mudgara, meaning Destroyer of Delusion, Bhaja Govindam is a powerful philosophical composition consisting of 31 verses that address the human tendency to pursue material acquisition and sensory indulgence in search of lasting fulfillment. Through direct and uncompromising insights, the text encourages seekers to recognize the limitations of worldly pursuits and instead develop viveka, or discernment, along with vairagya, the spirit of non-attachment. These principles help redirect attention toward the discovery of the eternal Self, referred to as Govinda, the ultimate reality beyond transient experiences.
The seminar will examine how Bhaja Govindam prescribes foundational spiritual disciplines such as karma (selfless action), bhakti (devotion), and jnana (knowledge), along with the importance of satsang, or spiritual association, and samskaras, the refinement of thought and conduct. Together, these practices are presented as practical tools for elevating the mind and cultivating inner stability. The teachings also highlight the essential role of Guru’s grace as a guiding force on the path toward spiritual realization and lasting well-being.
The session will be led by Shri Rangarajan, a disciple of Swami Parthasarathy, whose teachings continue to inspire Vedantic study worldwide. The seminar will explore several key philosophical themes including Prakriya Granthas as preparatory texts for foundational Vedanta study, the pursuit of dukha nivriti (freedom from sorrow) and sukha prapti (attainment of happiness), the principle of the Law of Karma governed by the universal Ordainer, the role of the four yogas, and the importance of chitta shuddhi, or purification of the mind. Participants will also gain insight into how satsang and guidance from a teacher support steady spiritual growth.
A central message of the program is captured in Verse 30 of Bhaja Govindam:
“नित्यानित्य विवेकविचारम्”
Wisdom is constancy of awareness between the Eternal and the passing.
This teaching encourages individuals to cultivate clarity in distinguishing between what is temporary and what is permanent, enabling a more purposeful and balanced approach to life.
The seminar will run from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and will include two sessions with a short break in between. Doors open at 8:55 am, followed by a live bhajan at 9:40 am. Session 1, titled Two Motivations of Life, begins at 10:00 am, and after a break from 11:00 am to 11:30 am, Session 2, Bhaja Govindam – Seek the Eternal, resumes at 11:35 am. The program concludes with participant exit at approximately 1:15 pm.
