Violent confrontations have broken out at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, Ontario, with Peel Regional Police reporting increased security presence following tensions that erupted on Sunday.
Federal Minister Anita Anand addressed the incident on X (formerly Twitter), stating her deep concern over “unacceptable violent attacks at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton.” She emphasized that all faith communities, including Hindus, must have the right to worship without the threat of violence.
Video footage circulating on social media platforms shows individuals allegedly wielding flagpoles as weapons against others. The Hindu Canadian Foundation has accused “Khalistani sympathizers” of instigating the unrest.
In response, Peel Regional Police assured the public of enhanced visibility in the area, affirming that while the right to protest is protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, their primary duty remains safeguarding public order and ensuring safety for all individuals.

Political figures have also voiced concerns over the violent altercations. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre described the incident as “completely unacceptable,” while MP Ruby Sahota condemned the violence, stressing that every member of the community deserves safety and respect within their places of worship.
Mississauga Ward 7 Councillor Dipika Damerla echoed similar sentiments, expressing hope that authorities will continue to ensure the Hindu community’s safety and freedom to worship without fear.
In a related incident across the country, Surrey, B.C., saw a heightened police presence at another Hindu temple. Reports indicate that Surrey police are working to maintain peace amid rising tensions between Khalistan protesters and temple attendees.
