Zimbabwe Cricket has unveiled a 15-member squad for the highly anticipated one-off Test match against England, set to take place on May 22 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. This fixture marks a historic moment for Zimbabwe, who will be playing their first Test on English soil since 2003.
The team has made three notable changes from the side that drew their recent Test series in Bangladesh. Veteran all-rounder Sikandar Raza returns to the squad, replacing Johnathan Campbell. Raza’s presence is expected to bring both stability and firepower to Zimbabwe’s middle order.
Also returning is wicketkeeper Clive Madande, who has recovered from injury and replaces Nyasha Mayavo as the backup behind the stumps. In a strategic change for English conditions, fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri has been selected ahead of Vincent Masekesa, despite Masekesa’s impressive five-wicket debut in Bangladesh. The move highlights the selectors’ preference for pace-friendly options suitable for the Trent Bridge pitch.
Head coach Justin Sammons expressed belief in his squad’s ability to rise to the challenge against one of cricket’s top sides. “We expect to perform at a standard that allows us to compete with one of the best teams in the world,” said Sammons. “The players must step onto the field with belief and fully embrace this opportunity.”
