More than 100,000 people attended the 41st annual Khalsa Day parade in Toronto on Sunday, in keeping with its reputation as one of the city’s biggest street celebration.
The parade began from the Better Living Building at the CNE along the Lakeshore and then up to Nathan Phillips Square. The first Khalsa parade was organized in 1986, with 2000 people.
Mayor John Tory spoke to the crowd at the end of the festivities, at Nathan Phillips Square about the many contributions made by the Sikh community. Tory called it a day “Of respecting and looking after each other.”
