The Toronto Police Service is updating the public on a shooting investigation where several people were injured.
On Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 1 a.m., police responded to a call for a shooting in the Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East area.
It is reported that:
– a group of people had just finished their evening prayers in the area and were gathering in a plaza parking lot deciding where they were going to get food
– a vehicle drove by the group and shots were fired from the moving vehicle
– the vehicle contained multiple occupants
– five men suffered gunshot wounds and were treated in hospital for serious, non-life-threatening injuries
This remains an active investigation and there is no evidence, at this time, to suggest that this incident was hate motivated.
Investigators are now releasing security camera images of the suspect vehicle.
It is described as a dark blue, four-door sedan, with dark wheel rims that are either custom or winter steel rims. It was seen around 1 a.m. on the day of the shooting on Hiscock Boulevard and it was last seen northbound on Markham Road shortly after the shooting.
