David Clarke of Brampton is celebrating a life-changing $7 million win from the June 4 Lotto 6/49 draw after playing the same numbers for years.
“I like to choose my own numbers,” Clarke said after receiving his cheque at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I’ve been playing with the same combination of numbers for about five years.”
The 52-year-old father shared that he typically buys his tickets and leaves them on his car dashboard until he’s ready to purchase for the next draw.
“This is my first major win. I really want to be smart about my windfall,” said Clarke, who has been playing the lottery for 10 years. “This prize gives me the freedom to pay some bills and possibly buy a house, somewhere quiet.”
Clarke also expressed plans to buy an SUV and set aside a portion of the winnings for his retirement. He dreams of buying a place in the Caribbean to escape the Canadian winters.
“Finally, it would be a dream to buy a place in the Caribbean and be a snowbird. When it gets cold in Canada I could fly south,” he said.
