Today, the Canadian federal government is testing its emergency alert system across most of the country. This test will send alerts to cellphones and broadcast over TV and radio, covering almost all provinces and territories except for Ontario, which will have its test on May 15, 2024. This initiative marks the first time the federal government itself is conducting such a test, alongside regular tests performed by provincial and territorial emergency management organizations. The effort is part of a new agreement to issue alerts on matters of national interest under federal jurisdiction.
