IDRE FJÄLL, Sweden — Mikael Kingsbury, the renowned Canadian freestyle skiing sensation, capped off his World Cup conquest with a victory in the men’s dual moguls competition on Saturday.
Kingsbury, who secured his first win of the season in men’s moguls on Friday, outshone Sweden’s Rasmus Stegfeldt to claim the top prize in the dual event.
“I’ve accomplished several doubles in my career, but this one holds a special place, particularly considering the formidable competition from the Swedes,” remarked Kingsbury.
In the small final, Ikuma Horishima of Japan secured the bronze by defeating Sweden’s Walter Wallberg.
“Walter had bested me in Val St-Côme back in January, so I had that extra ounce of motivation going up against him in the semifinal,” Kingsbury added.
The 31-year-old Kingsbury, hailing from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, now boasts an impressive record of 82 career World Cup victories in 138 starts, including two gold medals and one bronze in the current season.
In the women’s dual moguls competition, American Jaelin Kauf clinched the gold, while Rino Yanagimoto of Japan secured the silver, and Jakara Anthony of Australia claimed the bronze.
The World Cup tour is set to continue next weekend at Alpe d’Huez, France.
