The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they will not extend Ken Holland’s contract beyond its current term, ending his tenure as general manager and president of hockey operations. This decision, characterized as mutual, marks the conclusion of Holland’s five-year stint with the NHL club.
In a statement, Jeff Jackson, CEO of hockey operations for the Oilers, expressed gratitude to Holland for his contributions. Under Holland’s leadership, the Oilers saw significant achievements, including building a competitive team anchored by superstar players Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Despite reaching the Stanley Cup Final recently, the team faced challenges and criticisms, particularly regarding roster balance and goaltending issues.
Holland, who previously spent over two decades as the Detroit Red Wings’ GM, leaves behind a legacy of success and a foundation for future growth in Edmonton.
