This morning, a significant pothole on Highway 401 near Yonge Street in Toronto led to flat tires and vehicle deflations for approximately twelve motorists. The incident caused unexpected delays and traffic disruptions in the eastbound collector lanes.
Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Kerry Schmidt reported the initial discovery of the pothole and mentioned that the Ministry of Transportation promptly responded to repair the roadway. Despite the inconvenience, the affected lane was only closed for a few hours, and all lanes were reopened later in the day.
The depth and suddenness of the pothole took drivers by surprise, contributing to the immediate tire damage. Even an officer who responded to the scene was taken aback by the severity of the pothole, noting his own surprise at avoiding a flat tire.
The situation posed a significant challenge for morning commuters and required quick action to mitigate further traffic issues and ensure driver safety on one of Toronto’s busiest highways.
