In response to recent reporting by Global News revealing the extent of the Iranian regime’s interference in Canada, Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the federal official Opposition, is demanding immediate action against the Iranian regime. He expressed deep concern about the revelations, which show that hundreds of regime insiders are residing in Canada.
Speaking in Vancouver, Poilievre commented on the Global News investigation, which exposed the presence of individuals connected to the Iranian regime in Canada. He said, “To think that we might have terrorist-linked Iranian regime thugs operating with impunity, spending stolen money and intimidating Canadian Jews and Iranians is appalling.”
Poilievre, who has been a vocal advocate for taking a tough stance against the Iranian regime, admitted that even he was taken aback by the widespread nature of the problem. He described the reporting as “shocking.”
Ramin Joubin, a B.C. lawyer, has been diligently compiling a database to track the number of regime insiders operating in Canada and threatening individuals who speak out against Iran. Joubin revealed that approximately 700 individuals, including those with temporary residence, permanent residence, or citizenship, are affiliated with the regime in some way and are currently in Canada. Poilievre called this number “staggering” and emphasized the need for “immediate action to kick them out of this country.”
Renowned human rights activist Masih Alinejad, a vocal critic of the Iranian regime, shared her own concerns. She revealed that she has been moving from safe house to safe house in the United States since an alleged attempt on her life in July 2022. Alinejad believes her life is in danger in the U.S. and potentially under even greater threat in Canada. She recounted a warning from the FBI, stating, “The FBI told me that the same group who are trying to kidnap me on U.S. soil were the same group from Revolutionary Guards in Iran trying to harass, kidnap, and kill Canadians.” Alinejad added that the FBI advised her not to go to Canada, a warning that Poilievre described as “mind-blowing.”
In response to these revelations, Poilievre is advocating for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to be listed as a terrorist entity in Canada. He is also calling for increased sanctions against Iran and the establishment of a foreign agent registry to address this growing concern.
