BRAMPTON: The highly anticipated Brampton Farmers’ Market is back for another season, with safety measures in response to COVID-19.
The Market will operate on Saturdays from June 27 until October 24, 2020, from 8 AM to 1 PM in downtown Brampton. The market’s new starting time will allow for safe setup on the street for shopping.
Many of your favourite farmers and vendors will be back to sell fresh local produce and prepared packaged food. Artisan crafts and food prepared on site will not be available. Community health and safety is the City’s top priority during the COVID-19 pandemic, and safety measures will be in place.
The City of Brampton will implement the following safety measures:
• All vendors and customers are required to wear a non-medical mask or face covering while at the market
• Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the market
• A defined number of visitors will be admitted to the market area at any one time
• There will be only one entrance and one exit. The City recommends that only one person per household attends the market this season.
The City urges customers to maintain physical distancing while at the market. This means staying two metres (six feet) away from others at all times, unless they are a part of your ten person social circle, under the province’s emergency orders. Gatherings of more than ten people are prohibited under the Province’s emergency orders. Customers are also reminded to carry their own personal disinfectant, such as hand sanitizer or wipes, wash their hands often and refrain from touching their face.
To help make shopping as efficient as possible, a map of vendors will be available online at www.brampton.ca/markets and on site on market days.
The Brampton Farmers’ Market is generously sponsored by Algoma University this year.
The City of Brampton is working closely with its partners at Peel Public Health and the Brampton Emergency Management Office to continue to monitor risks. Visit www.brampton.ca/covid19 for regular updates.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said: “We are very excited to announce that the Brampton Farmers’ Market, a longtime fixture in the downtown core of our city, will open for the season on June 27! I encourage you to enjoy and shop the market while wearing a mask, practicing physical distancing and maintaining good hygiene.”
Gurpreet Dhillon, Regional Councillor, Wards 9 & 10, City of Brampton; Chair, Economic Development and Culture, added: “The Brampton Farmers’ Market is a tradition in our community, and I look forward to seeing it come alive this year. Many incredible vendors will be on site and I encourage everyone to support these businesses. Be sure to follow the safety measures in place to ensure the best experience possible for everyone.”
Regional Councillor Michael Palleshi tweeted: Remember though, that the rules may have changed a little and the Farmer’s Market may be opening up, but our circumstances have not changed, so PLEASE: STAY APART, STAY SAFE.
