Two individuals have lost their lives, and three others have sustained injuries as a result of a collision involving a school bus in Caledon, Ontario. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning on Heart Lake Road, situated between Mayfield and Old School roads, just before 8 a.m.
The collision involved a passenger vehicle and a school bus. Regrettably, one of the victims was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other succumbed to critical injuries after being transported to the hospital. Additionally, one person suffered severe injuries, while the bus driver sustained minor injuries.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) expressed their sorrow over the accident, clarifying that none of their students were harmed. A DPCDSB spokesperson conveyed their prayers and support for all those affected and their families.
It was noted that a child was aboard the bus at the time of the collision, but thankfully, they were unharmed and evaluated at the scene.
Acting Sgt. Joe Brisebois, speaking to reporters at the scene, emphasized the tragedy of the situation, particularly in the context of the approaching holiday season. He urged drivers to exercise caution, abide by speed limits, avoid impaired driving, and adapt their driving to weather and road conditions.
Currently, Heart Lake Road is expected to remain closed for several hours as law enforcement investigates the circumstances surrounding the incident.
