Vancouver’s bustling Robson Street faced disruption on Saturday evening as authorities closed down a block following a targeted shooting incident. Witnesses reported shots fired near the intersection of Richards Street and Robson Street, prompting swift police response and the closure of the area.
The incident, believed to be targeted, occurred around 5:40 p.m. local time, raising concerns in the typically vibrant shopping and dining district, usually bustling with weekend pedestrians.
Visible evidence of the shooting included bullet holes on a black BMW SUV and a nearby white Audi SUV, suggesting a collision between the vehicles. The presence of numbered yellow cones, typically used to mark evidence at crime scenes, indicated the seriousness of the situation.
Eye witnesses reported hearing gunshots preceding the collision, with three bullet holes visible on the passenger side rear door of the black SUV. Additionally, a bullet hole was observed in the window of a nearby Tim Hortons establishment.
In response to the incident, authorities cordoned off the affected stretch of Robson Street, blocking pedestrian and vehicular access between Richards Street and Homer Street. Police presence was evident, with officers and vehicles securing the area.
As investigations continue, Vancouver Police have appealed to any witnesses to come forward and provide information by contacting the department at 604-717-2541.
The incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public safety in urban areas and the importance of community cooperation in addressing such incidents.
