To Date, The Gala Has Collected Over $10 Million For Trillium Health Partners Programs
Mississauga: An incredible $710,000 was raised at the Trillium Diwali Gala presented by Mortgage Company of Canada on October 18 at the Pearson Convention Centre.
The Trillium gala is GTA’s first and longest running Diwali festival. For the first time in the event’s 18-year history, more than $100,000 was donated on the spot during the program’s “Call for Cash” portion.
“The overwhelming generosity and support of our community is what makes this event so successful year after year,” said Sapna Mehta, Trillium Diwali Community Chair. “We are incredibly grateful for the important role our community members play in the overall betterment of our shared community.”
Funds from this year’s event will support Trillium Health Partners’ leading cancer program by directing proceeds to cancer care and treatment technologies. Money raised will also support health care research to improve patient outcomes. To date, the annual gala has raised more than $10 million for medical equipment, patient care spaces and research.
“We know that with an aging population, cancer volumes are on the rise and early detection is our best line of defense for better patient experiences and outcomes,” said Dr. Mala Bahl, THP Medical Oncologist and Trillium Diwali Chair.
“Proceeds from this year’s gala will allow us to invest in new equipment like mammography x-rays, for prevention and early detection, and linear accelerator units for more personalized and localized radiation treatment. Thanks to the money raised, we will continue to advance care for patients and their families.”
Close to 1,000 community members gathered to celebrate. Guests were treated to entertainment by award-winning South Asian dance group Sanskriti Arts, a live performance by celebrity singer Kanika Kapoor and fusion foods fit for a spectacular Diwali celebration.
The Foundation has thanked Mortgage Company of Canada for being the presenting sponsor, as well as Pearson Convention Center, Coffee Oyster Champagne, IAMGOLD Corporation, Paul Babber and Associates, Morguard, Tasco Appliances, Bell Canada, Cargojet, HomeEquity Bank, Past Community Chairs, Royal Bank of Canada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Square One, The Host Fine Indian Cuisine and Paras Events for supporting this year’s event. The Trillium Diwali gala is also supported by a number of donors including table sponsors, ticket purchasers, cash donors, gift-in-kind donors and auction bidders.
