MISSISSAUGA: Nine women received the Women Hero Awards as part of the sixth annual Celebrating Womanhood Gala event organized by the Indo-Canadian arts and Culture Initiative. at Red Rose Convention Centre, Mississauga.
“CELEBRATING WOMANHOOD” was a Gala event, organized by Mokshi Virk, Director of Indo Canadian Arts & Culture Initiative (ICACI) to recognize the work and contribution of Indo-Canadian women.
This year, ICACI recognized the achievements of the following people:
Lifetime Achievement Award- Dr Asha Seth
Performing Arts – Gayathridevi Vijayakumar
Business – Sukhdeep Kang
Community service- Urz Heer
Diversity – Patricia Gonsalves
Media – Haleema Sadia
Entrepreneur- Shivani Sharma Gupta
Education – Chitralekha Potnis
Young Achiever- Simran Mann
This year’s event had an inspiring traditional Bharatnatyam performance by renowned artist Jhinook Mukherjee Sinha. She is a panel artist of the govenment of ovt. of India and has traveled across the globe for recitals and workshops since 2005.
There were Bollywood fusion and classical South Asian performances, along with fashion show, and a great networking opportunity with eminent speakers. Among the guests were MPP Harinder Malhi, MP Ramesh Sangha, and City Councillor, Jeff Bowman and Kathy McDonald, Peel District Board Trustee.
Mokshi Virk is the founder Director of ICACI (non-profit organization), and describes hereself as ‘a realtor, event manager, socially conscientious citizen, doting mother, caring wife, dear friend and an exemplary example to the community.’ A successful Real Estate Broker with Homelife SilverCity Realty Inc, Mokshi says: “Being a realtor is financially satisfying but doing something for your community is emotionally satisfying.”
