Malpeque, P.E.I.: Atlantic Canada’s traditional industries are a key source of community pride, vitality and identity. Investing in strategic planning and new technologies helps ensure rural-based businesses can adapt, modernize and compete on a global scale.
That is why the Government of Canada is helping five organizations in Central P.E.I. explore new ways to innovate and drive economic growth in their communities.
Heath MacDonald, Member of Parliament for Malpeque, announced a total investment of $480,000 in five organizations to support modernization and growth for rural businesses in Central P.E.I. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.

Small and medium-sized businesses are fixtures in our communities, providing essential jobs and economic opportunity.”
MP Heath MacDonald said: “The projects we are announcing today will impact and benefit numerous industries that are intertwined with the Island cultural fabric, including agriculture, tourism, harness-racing, and the ever-growing golf industry. These strategic investments will assist with adapting and innovating rural-based industries, ensuring a prosperous and successful future for Islanders and communities across the province.”
• Golf PEI promotes P.E.I. as a premiere golf destination and works to draw golfers from all over the world.
• The Atlantic Provinces Harness Racing Commission (APHRC) governs, regulates, and ensures the integrity of harness racing in Atlantic Canada. Today, there are nine racetracks overseen by APHRC from its office in Kensington, P.E.I..
• Tourism Cavendish Beach (TCB) Inc. is a member-driven regional tourism association that develops and markets tourism products within the Green Gables Shore region of P.E.I.
• Allan Equipment Manufacturing Ltd. (AEM) is the largest Canadian designer and manufacturer of potato harvesting equipment including harvesters, graders, windrowers, conveyors and washers. The company also manufactures blueberry harvesters and mowers.
• P.E.I. Bag Co. (PBC) is located in Central Bedeque, and manufactures food grade packaging for agriculture, aquaculture and other food processing sectors to export across North America.
