Peel Regional Police have reported that a Brampton high school is currently under lockdown, with nearby schools in hold and secure mode on Monday (March 18).
According to police, Heart Lake Secondary School is the site of the lockdown.
“Police are on scene and investigating unconfirmed reports of a weapon seen,” stated a tweet from the police.
The lockdown was initiated “as a precautionary measure,” police mentioned, while nearby schools have been placed in hold and secure status.
However, police have emphasized that there is no active threat present at this time.
During a lockdown, the Peel District School Board (PDSB) website explains that students and staff are instructed to move to the closest room, close the door, lock it if possible, lie down on the floor away from doors and windows, and remain there until further instructions are given.
In a hold and secure scenario, all external doors are locked, windows are closed, and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building without police authorization. Despite these measures, classes within the school proceed as usual.
