Brampton, Nepalese community organizations exquisitely showcased rich diversity of Nepal through culture, dances, costumes, festive glimpses, music, cuisine at Carabram Multicultural Festival. Carabram festival, which was organized from 7-9, July, 2023, had different locations within Brampton City for particular community and country. The Nepalese pavilion at Jim Archdekin Recreation Centre was jointly organized by Nepalese Community Network of Canada (NCNC), Canadian Newa Guthi(CNG) and Nepalese Janjati Association of Canada(NJAC).
Inaugurating the Nepal pavilion charge d’affaires a.i. of Nepal to Canada Ms. Rojina Tamrakar elucidated that showcasing Nepali culture in diaspora help promote tourism of Nepal which will ultimately support economic growth of the country. Citing Nepal a diverse country in terms of nature, culture and ethnicity, Ms. Tamrakar said that each Nepali residing abroad is a cultural ambassador.
Addressing the inaugural program, Member of Parliament Hon. Soniya Sidhu thanked Nepalese community for showcasing rich Nepali culture to strengthen the diversity mosaic of Canada. At the inaugural function including NCNC President Nar Bahadur Thapa and CNG President Prakash Lal Pradhan stressed on the need of participating in the multicultural events to promote and preserve Nepali culture in Canada.
Speaking on the concluding day of the festival, Brampton City Mayor Patrick Brown thanked Nepalese community organizations for the Nepal pavilion and informed about one of the public parks of in Brampton to be named as “Sagarmatha Park”. At the end of the program speakers including NCNC Chairman Pashupati Pokharel and NJAC President Birkaji Gurung thanked all for their invaluable support to make the festival memorable.
The three days festival at Nepal pavilion demonstrated Nepalese folk dances from different ethnic communities of mountain, hill and Terai, Lakhe dance, Kumari the Living Goddess of Newar community, religious songs, folk instrumental music by Himalayan Vibes along with traditional attire and authentic Nepali food.
Carabram, the biggest multicultural festival of Brampton, has already accomplished glorious forty years and considered as ideal cultural festival for those who want to experience the world without leaving the city.
