MALTON – A Living example of selfless service to humanity Dr Naurang Singh Mangat WILL BE visiting Peel region from November 23 to 28. During his visit, he will be staying at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Malton. For the last 12 years he has been looking after and trying to save lives of the destitute, homeless, blind, disabled, mentally challenged and poor sick people lying on the streets of Punjab.
It was in 2005 that Dr. Mangat began cycling around Ludhiana City providing free medical care to homeless and sick people lying on the roadsides and at other places. His untiring efforts to help the homeless and the sick have now taken the shape of a well-known Piunjab charity called “Guru Amar Das Apahaj Ashram”. Its two-storey building is located near village Sarabha of Ludhiana district.
To date, nearly 175 homeless patients were admitted/treated in the Ashram. After medical treatment, many were rehabilitated. However, about 62 patients chose to live in the Ashram permanently. Of these 18 are bedridden and unable to answer even the call of nature on their own. Some have total memory loss. All patients living in the Ashram are provided free food, clothes, medical treatment, nursing care and other necessities of life.
Dr Mangat who is a former Professor and Scientist of PAU, Ludhiana, University of Windsor, and Morrison Scientific Inc. Calgary, and a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society of London (UK) said that on completion of two remaining floors of the building, the Ashram would be able to house hundreds of such needy people in the future. For more information, he can be reached at his cell phone 403-401-8787 or at nsmangat14@hotmail.com, or visit www.apahajashram.org.
