Statistics Canada has announced that Canada experienced its highest annual population growth rate in over six decades in 2023. The agency reported a population growth rate of 3.2 percent, marking the fastest pace of growth since 1957, when it reached 3.3 percent.
As of January 1, 2024, the population of Canada stood at 40,769,890, reflecting an increase of 1,271,872 people compared to the beginning of 2023.
Statistics Canada attributes the majority of this growth to temporary immigration in the previous year. Without temporary immigration, the population growth rate would have been 1.2 percent.
