Ingredients:
- 4 pieces of rui fish (rohu fish)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- Salt, to taste
- 3 tbsp mustard oil
- Fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish
Instructions:
- Clean and wash the fish pieces thoroughly. Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder and keep aside.
- In a pan, heat 3 tablespoons of mustard oil. Once hot, add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
- Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced green chilies to the pan and sauté for a minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and sauté until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add the spice powders – cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, and salt to the pan. Mix well and sauté for a minute.
- Add 2 cups of water to the pan and bring it to a boil.
- Gently add the marinated fish pieces to the pan and mix well. Reduce heat to low, cover the pan with a lid and let it cook for 8-10 minutes.
- Once the fish is cooked through, garnish with freshly chopped cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice.
