A police officer from the Toronto area has been charged following a collision that resulted in serious injuries to a civilian. The incident, which took place on August 28, 2023, occurred as the officer was responding to a medical call at the intersection of Bovaird Drive East and Dixie Road in Brampton around 9:30 p.m.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which handles cases involving police where there is injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault, reported that the collision involved Acting Sergeant Jonathan Kreis. He is accused of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Both Kreis and the injured civilian, a female driver, were taken to hospital following the crash. While the officer received minor injuries, the civilian driver suffered serious injuries.
The SIU has stated that due to the ongoing legal process and to preserve the fairness of the trial, they will not comment further on the case. Kreis is expected to make a court appearance on May 15.
