Canada’s main stock index shows a moderate gain in morning trade.
- The S&P/TSX composite index was up 93.74 points at 16,195.83 after 90 minutes of trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
- In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 249.67 points at 26,178.35. The S&P 500 index was up 24.07 points at 2,858.47, while the Nasdaq composite was up 78.69 points at 7,808.01.
- The Canadian dollar traded at 74.97 cents US, up from an average of 74.83 cents US on Friday.
- The May crude contract was up 98 cents at US$61.12 per barrel and the May natural gas contract was up 5.1 cents at $2.71 per mmBTU.
- The June gold contract was up $1.20 at US$1,297.30 an ounce and the May copper contract was up one cent at US$2.95 a pound.
